University Funding

Students interested in receiving Detroit Promise funding for four-year institutions must meet the following requirements: 

  1. Successfully complete and submit the 2025-26 FAFSA and all college financial aid requirements. 
  2. Live in Detroit for all four years of high school. 
  3. Attend all four years and graduate from a high school in Detroit. (This can be any combination of Detroit high schools for all four years.) 

In addition, scholars must meet the requirements of the college they are applying to (see below).

Please note: University scholarships cannot be transferred to another university.

*A note for students attending Western Michigan University or Madonna University :

Western Michigan University is a first dollar partner that provide extra support to students. This means students will receive funds from both universities before any other grant or additional funding. 

In addition, WMU offers the Empowering Futures Housing Scholarship, a $6,000 need-based scholarship for housing and dining costs. You must apply and be approved. Learn more and apply.

Students who are interested in any accelerated program at Madonna University are not allowed to use Detroit Promise funding.
