Kyra Griffin graduated from Renaissance High School in 2017 and went on to attend Western Michigan University with the help of the Detroit Promise. She is majoring in criminal justice with a minor in American Sign Language and legal studies and is interested in a career in specialized law enforcement. Throughout her undergraduate career, Kyra has participated in two honor societies (Alpha Lambda Delta and Alpha Phi Sigma), one professional fraternity (Phi Alpha Delta), and various on campus clubs including You Beautiful Black Woman, American Sign Language Club, and Criminal Justice Student Association – all while holding two on-campus jobs as an ambassador and mentor. Kyra will graduate from WMU in April 2021. After graduation, Kyra wants to stay in Kalamazoo for a while and possibly work at the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
The Detroit Promise has made it so I don't have to constantly stress about how I'm going to pay for things. It has definitely taken a load off of my back and my family's.
